About the artist:

Evelyn Elgie (they/them) is a writer, editor, maker, and multidisciplinary artist.

They have been making art as Heliotrope Design since 2021, taking on projects for both corporate and individual clients. They strive to make their work accessible, playful, and sustainable. Their commitment to sustainability is informed by their many years working as an outdoor educator and a treeplanter, and their deep love and respect for nature.

Evelyn is the author of Conversations with the Ocean, an experimental poetry-art book from Penrose Press. Their work has appeared in Glass Mountain, Hinge, and Open Heart Forgery, and they are the winner of the 2017 Claire Fooshee Poetry Prize.

In 2023, Evelyn co-founded the multimedia lit mag Eavesdrop Magazine.

I respectfully acknowledge my status as an uninvited guest living on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. The knowledge that informs my work is shaped by my experiences as a descendant of white British settlers, and my personal connection with the lands of the Mississauga of the New Credit. I acknowledge this in order to accept my ethical duties as a guest and a settler on this land, and to commit to honoring that responsibility through my work by taking meaningful, tangible action.
